BS1363-F5. This is a plug and socket-outlet gauge to BS1363. Limit gauges of this type are how a manufacturer demonstrates that a plug or socket sits inside the dimensional band of the national standard — the same GO / NOT GO principle as a thread gauge, applied to the pin and contact geometry.
What it checks
- The dimensional feature named in the figure or sheet
- That the feature falls inside, not merely near, the permitted band
- Interchangeability with the mating part from any compliant manufacturer
Specification
| Standard | BS1363 |
| Gauge | BS1363-F5 |
| Material | Hardened tool steel (stainless on request) |
| Calibration | Calibration certificate supplied |
| Made by | Kingpo — machined and inspected in-house |
How it is used
- Bring the gauge and the sample to ambient temperature.
- Present the gauge to the feature using only the gauge weight or light finger pressure.
- Read the limit feature named in the figure.
- Record the result; a gauge that has to be forced is a reject, not a pass.
Why the figure number matters
A plug standard is not one drawing but a family of them, and each figure checks a different feature: pin length, pin diameter, spacing, shutters, contact position or the outline that keeps a non-compliant plug out of the socket. Two gauges from the same standard can look alike and do completely different jobs, which is why the figure number — not the photograph — has to appear on your purchase order and your test record.
Care and calibration
Limit gauges are inspection tools. Keep them clean and dry, store them away from production tooling, and re-calibrate on a cycle set by how often they are used. Record the gauge identity with each result so a test can be traced back to the tool that made it.
Buying notes
National plug standards are not interchangeable and their figures are revised. Order against the figure number and edition in your test schedule, and tell us the market you ship to.
Frequently asked questions
Is a certificate supplied?
Yes, with dimensional inspection against the figure.
Can you make gauges to other national standards?
Yes — send the standard and figure number and we will machine to it.
Do you make gauges to customer drawings?
Yes. Modified gauges for production gauging are a normal part of what we build.
How fast can you deliver?
Stocked figure numbers ship quickly; made-to-drawing items are quoted with a delivery date before you order.
