Product Description:
The IEC60061-3 B15d 7006-4A-2 is a precision lamp gauge designed for B15d bayonet cap bulbs, ensuring secure mechanical fitting and reliable electrical contact in lighting applications. This specification is part of the IEC 60061-3 international standard, which defines dimensions, tolerances, and technical requirements for lamp caps and holders.
The B15d 7006-4A-2 designation refers to a 15mm bayonet base (2-pin design) with specific gauge measurements, critical for manufacturers and engineers to guarantee proper alignment and safety compliance. This lamp gauge is commonly used in appliance lighting, automotive bulbs, and industrial fixtures where a secure bayonet connection is required.
Key Features:
Standard Compliance: Meets IEC60061-3 global standards for safety and performance.
Bayonet Locking System: Ensures a vibration-resistant and secure fit for B15d base bulbs.
Precision Measurement: Guarantees accurate pin spacing and base dimensions for compatibility.
Wide Application: Suitable for halogen, LED, and incandescent bulbs in appliances and specialty lighting.
Global Use: Recognized in Europe, Asia, and other markets following IEC standards.
The IEC60061-3 B15d 7006-4A-2 is a GO (pass) limit gauge built to sheet 7006-4A-2 of IEC 60061-3. It is inserted into the bayonet lampholder to check the insert dimension of the holder. The B15d cap is a bayonet cap with 15 mm cap diameter — the small bayonet cap (SBC). Kingpo machines this gauge in-house from hardened tool steel, inspects it against the sheet before despatch and ships it with a calibration certificate, so it can go straight into an incoming-inspection or production-gauging routine.
What this gauge checks
- Minimum / maximum limit of the thread or named dimension, as defined on the sheet
- That the part is not cut undersize (a GO gauge that will not enter is a reject)
- Mechanical compatibility with the mating part at the adverse end of the tolerance range
The dimension that matters on a B15d cap is 15 mm cap diameter. It is what decides whether the lamp seats correctly and stays safe in the holder, and it is the geometry this gauge is built around.

How the test is run
- Condition the gauge and the sample together at ambient temperature and make sure both are clean, dry and undamaged.
- Present the gauge to the sample. A GO gauge is assembled using only the weight of the gauge or light finger pressure — never a tool.
- Read the limit feature named on the sheet. On cap gauges the centre contact must be co-planar with, or project beyond, the reference surface.
- Record the result. A GO gauge that will not enter is a reject; do not force it to make the test pass.
The verdict is the sample must accept the gauge freely. Read the gauge, do not force it: a limit gauge that is forced into place tells you nothing about the part and damages the gauge.
GO and NOT GO — why you usually need both
A single limit gauge proves only one side of a tolerance. A GO gauge shows the part is not too small; a NOT GO gauge shows it is not too large. Running both is the only way to demonstrate a cap or a lampholder sits inside the band, and it is what an auditor will expect to see recorded. If you are building a gauge set from scratch, order the two together and keep them in the same case.
This page is the GO gauge. The matching NOT GO gauge for the same series is listed under related products below.
Getting the right sheet
IEC 60061-3 assigns one sheet number per gauge, and the number is what you should order against. Three things decide it: the cap family, whether you are checking a finished lamp or a lampholder, and which feature is being checked — thread, contact-making, protection against accidental contact, insertion torque or a named dimension. Sending us the sheet number avoids the most common error in this category, which is ordering a cap gauge when the test is on the holder, or the other way round.
Frequently asked questions
Is this gauge supplied with a calibration certificate?
Yes. Every Kingpo gauge is inspected against the sheet before despatch and shipped with a calibration certificate. We can also re-calibrate gauges you already hold.
Which lamps does the B15d version cover?
It covers B15d caps — 15 mm cap diameter. If your lamp uses a different cap family, the sheet number will be different; send us the cap marking and we will identify the sheet you need.
Can you make a gauge to a drawing instead of to a sheet number?
Yes. We machine to customer drawings as well as to IEC 60061-3 sheets, including modified gauges for production gauging where a full standard gauge is impractical.
What wears out on this type of gauge?
The gauging surfaces and any thread. Limit gauges are inspection tools, not production tools: keep them off the production line, store them dry, and re-calibrate on a cycle set by usage rather than by calendar.
